Good Morning,

Rick thanks for coffee and breakfast. Have a safe and enjoyable hike.

What's the rest of you doing.

It's a sn*wy 32 withs a high of 34; ugh. My SW order arrived yesterday so onward and upward with Hank's. Not much else going on here but I am looking forward to the NCAA selection show tomorrow even though 'Cuse won't be in the mix once again.

Have a great day!! Be well, stay safe, and keep warm.

Light snow on the ground and reported to be 26o as I look out the window to my left.  ::)  We had wind gusts reported to be in the range of 65 mph during the day yesterday with severe bluster the predominant descriptive. :o Today is guessed to be more calm.  Weather forecasts for St. Ignace, at the Bridge and Newberry in the NE part of the UP include the word "Feet" in them.  That storm system seems to have moved East headed toward Ron's general direction. Tomorrow's forecast here has a potential for 60o and a late day cold front breeding overnight storms and snow by Monday.  :o  Another "A" ticket ride.  It's still March.

In the Big 10 hoops tournament, SPARTY had the double the bye and got lazy, if they'd hit all the usual gimme shots and close stuff they are capable of would have won by 10+, but they didn't.  The other team did.  Too little, too late and a solid game from UCLA sent them home.  :-\  4 points was no indication of the poor game all evening.

The layout drew most of my attention yesterday.  Working on scenery base.

Div meeting today, not sure I'll go.  OPS coming Monday will be much more enjoyable. The grand daughter is scheduled to show up to visit the Doll.

That's about it from here.  Be Safe, enjoy.  Hang on!

PRR Modeler

Good Morning All,

Thanks for opening and breakfast Rick. Enjoy your hike.

Well yesterday was awesome with Dad (sarcasm). First thing in the morning yesterday I discovered his legs are covered in skin tears, lacerations and bruising from falling off his mobility chair while on the senior trip. He said nothing after getting home Thursday night. :-X I'm now bandaging everything up. Hopefully no ER trip because of infection.

Wait, the best is yet to come. Later yesterday I asked to borrow Dad's car since mine was blocked in. I find out he was in a auto accident on the way to the senior trip, side swipping a truck destroying the drivers mirror and leaving a streak down the side of the car. The best part is he drove off. A school resource officer saw it happen. Luckily the other driver didn't want to make a report and he really dodged a bullet when the officer didn't cite him for leaving the scene of an accident.

Dad and I had a discussion and he will no longer be driving. Of course, that means I get to drive him everywhere but he is unsafe on the roads.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Curt, I remember those days with Dad then a few years later Mom. Worse as she wasn't pleasant.  >:(   20+ years.

You're a good son.

We had similar light but more snow this morning.  Neighbor's house from my driveway:

Last night's concert was great, but it's a long drive to Boston and back.  I should get some more work on the boxcar kit, but frankly I've messed parts of that up, particularly the brake location.  Good thing I'm not a real prototype modeler, I'd have to toss this.  :-X

Morning all,

Thanks for breakfast, blueberry pancakes is a great change this morning.[/color

The pool guy came to clean and gave me the number of the guy with the equipment to "jet wash" the pool plumbing. That will occur on Wednesday.

Pam and I have a birthday party to attend today at 2PM. A friend of ours will be 90 yrs. on Tuesday and his daughter is throwing him a surprise party. Should be lots of fun as Maurice (MO) to all of us is a very nice and funny guy.

Not sure how much I'll get done in the train shed today. Pam wants to get new plants for the spring and summer since we now have a bare landscape from the winter freeze. This time I'm looking for very cold and hardy plants, more in the line of evergreens.

Karl, why not start a thread on your layout. We'd all love to see the "big picture."

Have a wonderful Saturday everyone. For me, every day is Saturday except Sunday.

Curt and Karl,

I remember those days as well with my father. He was very upfront about growing old and gave up the car without incident. My mother didn't know who she was couldn't remember where she parked the car.

My dad still lived alone, but I bought his groceries every week for four years. He'd call with a list and off I went!

Pam's mother didn't want to drive saying at age 86, "Everyone on the road scares me."

Back Again,

I sympathize with everyone concerning their senior parents; been there...done that. My Dad knew when it was time to give up driving so yes I was his taxi and shopped for his groceries after work. My Father-in-law was a different story. After ripping through town, 30 speed limit and he was going 45, I knew that was it. When we returned home I told Ellie and she confiscated his keys and that was the end of his driving except I was the elected taxi service.

Good morning Rick, Larry, Karl, Curt, Dave, ACLTom, Philip, Jerry and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Rick, thanks for the coffee and breakfast, you know the best maple syrup comes from Quebec right.  ;D  Enjoy your hike today.

Larry, Glad your SW kits arrived, we got white stuff too.

Karl, sounds like you are making progress on the trestle scene, we need pictures.  ;D  As Tom mentioned maybe you can start a thread on your layout.

Curt, talk about having a great day.  :o  Your dad got real lucky concerning the accident, hopefully today will be much better.

Dave, glad you enjoyed the concert.

Tom, have fun at the birthday party.

Philip, the man of many words ;D , Have a great day.

Jerry, have fun with Diane's son and family.

Current weather is -1c (34f) overcast with white stuff falling.  It started last night and the white stuff is expected today and tomorrow.  Hopefully it is the last for this winter.  Checking in late as I slept in this morning, Gracie got me up at 8:00am, she never lets me sleep past 8:00.  Made a run to Costco $$ and the vet to pick up Gracie's medication $$$, she's lucky we love her.  :)  Didn't make it to the bench last night as I ended up working too late yesterday (it's a problem I have when I work from home).  I did manage to watch the qualifying for the F1 sprint race.  The rest of today's plan is to watch the Sprint Race, qualifying for the F1 race and spend time at the bench.

Have a great day everyone.

Good Afternoon;

I haven't said hi for a few days so thought I would pop by. I to remember the days of helping my parents. Dad had a heart attack at 66 so Mom was on her own. At 73 she said it was time for assisted nursing home apartment and quit driving at 77. We had her at our house every week and were at her place at least as much. Now I look in the mirror and I am them, older than my Dad when he passed , not much younger than when mom stopped driving. Difference is I have no illusions of the kids helping. Hopefully with modern medicine and living a little better we will get to enjoy life independently a little longer. So far so good.

Now back to the important stuff working on the layout and watching USF basketball team play today. Everyone have a great day!

d afternoon,

Rick, thanks for opening, coffee, and pancakes. Good luck on your trek to cooler climes.

Larry, good luck with the order from SW.  Fun!

Karl, layout work sounds good.  Wishing you fun at the division meeting and OPS session.

Curt, hope your Dad heals soon.  I experienced the car keys being taken away from my Mom.  It was quite an emotional event.

Dave, that's a sneaux.  Glad it was melted in the second photo...

Tom, wishing you lots of fun at the birthday party.

Philip, good day!

Jerry, a fantastic time with family to Diane and you.

Ron, hope the sneaux season is past for you.

Jim, thanks for stopping by.  Enjoy the game.

How is the rest of the group?

It's a bright day at 79°F.  Tomorrow, rain and cooler weather arrive for a few days. I spent the morning on the layout.  I planted the loading dock and added more stone paths around the depot and facilities.  The details were glued to the dock, and a ramp was finalized.

Sharon keeps trying to get me to go outside to work on plants.  I keep telling her that the last freeze date is April 9th, and we might kill the plants if we trim the old ones and plant the new ones...

I have been wanting to make one of these for many years, so I finally did it last week.  It's a wood scriber to enhance weathering after using a razor saw.  It's five exactly blades glued together with ACC, then the group is glued with epoxy into one end of a rectangular tube.  It works great!

Have fun,
mike

Curt, hope your dad heals up quickly.  I was lucky when my dad gave up driving, he knew it was time.  A few months later he would ask where his car was.  I gave it to my brother (in Arizona with dad and I still in Iowa).  My daughter was about 14 at the time and wanted it (it was a small Pontiac convertible), but if dad saw it, he'd then want it back.

I've also had to be the "heavy" when son/daughter would bring in elderly dad to the practice so I could say he shouldn't be driving.
