The Franklin & South Manchester Railroad - it's all about the details!

As we pass the yard tower we come to the town of Bedford Falls. Here is a overview as we enter the town.

The first structure that catches my eye is this unique red structure (I need to ask George if it has a name).


Follow-up on this structure (07/23/15).  I talked to George today and this structure does not have a name - George scratch built it from a prototype picture that he liked. It will be know here as "The box car red structure in Bedford Falls".








It also must have caught Mark Dalrymple's eye - this is one of his pictures.

We are going to hold our tour for a few days so I can add some of the great photographs of Franklin that Mark Dalrymple has sent me. As we discussed  previously, I will add a short post to point you to the page and structure as I add the new photographs to the thread. Mark I can't thank you enough for taking the time to take the pictures - process and email them to me. I think we are all going to enjoy these new photographs.

I just wanted to make a quick post to assure everyone that I haven't forgot about this thread.  My outside house repairs have been keeping me away from my hobbies the past couple of weeks so I will catch-up on posting pictures in a few weeks when I get the outside work done.  I have been receiving great pictures from Mark Dalrymple almost every day that are going to make a great contribution to this thread.  I promise - I will get back to this thread ASAP.

I just found this thread and I must say its a dream come true to see all the many photos of the F&SM.
I would like to request photos of the Alan Deeks building. I have never been able to figure out a footprint for the many sides and odd angles. I don't believe its on the layout now.

Welcome to the Modelers Forum and the F&SM Thread.  I will see what I can do about pictures of the Alan Deeks building.  I remember the structure but can't remember where George had it on the layout.  If it's still on the layout we probably have a picture if not I will ask George the next time I talk to him.  Please stop by the thread often - we are continuing to add photographs - we are just getting started.

I also would love to see more of the Alan Deeks building. I only have 1 view of it and would love to see the other sides, it any pics exist. A couple of months ago I actually started to lay this structure out on paper for a scratchbuild!

Thanks for following the thread and your request is under investigation.  I received a personal email from one of our forum members that jogged my memory.  Alan Deeks was originally in DoverTown right in front (see page 68 of George's book).  George moved it because it's not there now.  Tom also mentioned that it appears in the first picture of this thread (see page 1) right behind the green draw bridge.  So we know it was on the layout in 2013 when I took most of these pictures.  I will see if I took pictures at different angles as I sort through the pictures in this area.  Please stay toned.

"What I did not anticipate was that, as promised, George had already removed several of the taller brick buildings in south Manchester. In their place he has installed some buildings previously taken off the layout, like the green wood framed "Allan Deeks" building from Dovertown. This structure has a very interesting roofline, with multiple dormers. I am glad to see it back on the layout.."
