Good Morning,

Rick thanks for the coffee and breakfast. Have an enjoyable and safe hike.

Philip stay cool and hydrated if working outside.

Ron Happy Canada Day!!

What's on your agenda.

It's a very steamy 80 with a high in the mid 90's with scattered rain storms. Tomorrow will be the worst @ 98 then it'll start cooling back down somewhat; too dang hot for me. Chiropractor shortly then probably inside the rest of the day. The A/c will be getting a workout. Still no SW order so maybe today??? and some bench time later.

Have an enjoyable day!!! Be all, stay hydrated, and thy to keep cool.

Good morning Rick, Philip, Larry and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Rick, enjoy the hiking.

Philip, glad the tree removal is going well.

Larry, thanks for the Canada Day wishes, there will be fireworks tonight at a pack just down the street from us, will probably go watch them.

Current temperature is 24c (75f) with the sub out for now, thunderstorms are in the forecast for this afternoon.  We had some loud boomers last night, one was close enough to shake the house.  No modeling again last night but today's plan is to decal the other side of the boxcars.  I really want to finish up the boxcars so I can add them to the layout.  Once added to the layout 4 Bachmann boxcars come off the layout.

Have a great day everyone.

Yes, Happy Canada Day to those north of our shared border!  The short timespan between Canada Day and Independence Day made for a lot of cross-border holiday travel.

Here in New England, we're on Day 1 of a 4-5 day heat wave.  My plan is to stay indoors.  Next week I have 2 separate lunch meetings (one with my former office-mate and fellow model railroader  ;D )  In the meantime, I hope I generate the energy to debug the flickering LEDs.  Much of yesterday afternoon was wasted dealing with DirecTV, our satellite dish line failed, so that means no World Cup.  I'm guessing they'll tell me the problem is with coax inside the house, and this will be the second interior wall coax line that failed.  Must be some critter attacking them.  But I'm not ripping the walls apart to rerun coax!

Larry don't you just love the postal service!!
With pay more get it later!!

Ron Happy Canada Day.  Have fun watching the fireworks tonight.

Dave hope you get the cable working again.

Weather in South Jersey is sunny/87.  Later on 96.
I did manage to cut more shingles yesterday so today if it not to hot in my room.
I'll start wall two.
I'm sure the beach will be packed with those pesky tourists trying to burn themselves to a crisp!!!

Everyone have a wonderful day!!  :)

Good morning at 7:50am from Pasadena, Ca. It's 60f degrees heading to 74! Back home in Wisconsin it's 84 heading to 91 but feeling like 104.

As big a fan as I am over Route 66 I never explored the fact it used to go through Pasadena. I knew it I just never investigated it. One of the things we plan to do was this trip actually get to the symbolic end and that is the Santa Monica pier. I was given some tips a few weeks ago about the pier. Last night I planned the route. As I put our hotel in, the Pasadena Hotel and Pool Ai said you are already on Route 66! Wow! We've stayed here for years and I never knew Colorado Blvd (route of the Rose Bowl parade) was Route 66.

Today's plan is around 9am head out on the original Rt 66 surface streets except for 3 miles of the Santa Monica Freeway. Total is 21 miles to the pier from here. Around 1pm we will come back and stroll the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens (tips from Dave on our last trip here in Spring) till dinner around 6:30. We are doing this today while the weather is still great for walking in the 70's. 80s return Thursday and we will do the Reagan Muesum.

I have a few books on the buy it list hopefully at the Original Whistle Stop at its new Pasadena location just a few blocks away from the previous 42 year old Colorado Blvd location. I have the Train Shack in Burbank on the list but only if I get bored crazy! Not sure when but before we leave Tuesday for San Diego

Ron Happy Canada Day.

I am a bit in California sticker shock over last night's Mexican dinner 3 walkable blocks from my sister's condo. She uses a walker full time now because of her Parkinson's. $230 with just 1 beer at $10 (Terry) included. It was spectacular though and the service was excellent but also not over the top. It really though is a neighborhood restaurant

Afternoon All,

Yesterday I went to the ER for the frequent trips to the toliet and abd pain.  It ends up my small intestine is empty and full of gas causing the pain I have been having. I was given some supportive meds and just have to deal with it until my colon is back to normal. Of course I have to eat to help fix this but stll have a loss of appetite and energy.

Ron Happy Canada Day.

Tom I hope you are feeling better.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Well, MUCH better than the opposite problem!  Wife went to the ER by ambulance when she had a blockage in her small intestine.  They're still trying to figure out why, so now she's scheduled to be 'scoped' in both directions (endoscopy and colonoscopy)...  We just hope they use different tools. ;D    (A blockage like that can be life threatening, as well as extremely painful.  Fortunately, hers cleared without surgery.)

Howdy folks,

We are back home after a nice visit to the lake. It is hot here with high humidity and temperatures.

Rick, I was at 10,000 feet, fly fishing when I had my first heart attack.  The elevation takes some getting used to.

Philip, stay cool.

Larry, sounds like a great day to stay indoors and play with trains.

Ron, Happy Canada Day, and good luck finishing the boxcars.

Dave, good luck with the TV connection.

Jerry, funny about tourists.  Hope your hobby area stays cool enough for shingles.

TomO, yikes, hope your visit goes well.

Karl, have a good one. BTW, don't need sunscreen if you stay in doors, lol.

Curt, that sounds miserable.  Hope you get well soon.

How are the rest of the gang?

I'm ready for a nap.

Have fun,
mike

Philip

My tree cutter has been in the logging business for 40 years and had near heat exhaustion today after 2 hours. No joke. He is going to try again tomorrow. The heat is terrible. Was nearing 110 today.

The project is 2 giant 60' trees and a smaller tree in the way.  Sassafras, Catalpa and red mulberry.
The Catalpa is double pronged and huge. The main parts are all down and the bucking, etc is ongoing.

Day 3 tomorrow. I'm very concerned about the 54 year old subcontractor.

Good morning everyone.

38 now in Fraser, CO, mix of sun and clouds with a high of 61.

Coffee, sodas and OJ are ready.
Assorted boxes of cereal are on the counter to enjoy for breakfast.

Philip, keep cool and hope your arborist will be OK.

Mike, you're right about getting used to the higher elevations.

Curt, hope you're able to eat something and start feeling better.

Karl, enjoy the north.

TomO, keep having your kicks on Route 66.

Jerry, how are you?

Dave, good luck with the LED's.

Ron, happy belated Canada Day.

Larry, did the SW order show up?

ACLTom, feeling better?

How's everyone else.

Besides going to the gym and then driving an hour and a half to the trailhead I'll be hiking today, nothing much happened.
Oh, I did notice my new bank charged my checking account $6.
I call them up to ask what that was for.
They tell me it was because my balance was zero and there's a $500 minimum.
I explain that I just opened the account so of course the balance was zero when I opened the account.
I had transferred $1,000 into the account not long after opening it.
I asked if they had any checking accounts that already had $500 pre-loaded and I got no answer.
I got the $6 credited.

This is one of the three moose I saw on Tuesday.

Good morning folks,

Rick, thanks for opening and breakfast.  Banks, amazing!

Philip, that's quite an assortment of trees.

How is the rest of the crew?

No plans for the day.  I may wash the cars.  It's still hot and humid here.

Have fun,
mike

Morning all,

Thanks for breakfast Rick, cereal with cold milk is perfect for today.

I'm doing much better. The skin on my head is so tight that it stings as it heals. I feel like I got a cheap face lift and I think my ears are higher since the scalp is pulled together.  ;D The sutures come out Monday morning, yea!

I hope to get back to the bench later this afternoon. Pam has a few errands to run and I'm the driver for "Driving Miss Pam". She does drive but likes me going with her. She says, you can go and have all the rest of the day in the train shed.

She has a big grocery list as we are having a few friends over on Saturday for a cookout.

Have a safe and happy Thursday my friends.
