Wow. Great work...I've obviously seen them re-purposed like Malcolm Furlow did by just gluing a bridge detail on top but you've gone to a much higher level - the pit looks great too- very unique.

Morning All,

Well, my lunch just cancelled with a migraine...considering playing hooky  ;D. I cut and painted the missing piece (backdrop) from my recently installed module (benchwork only), so I'll most certainly get it mounted today and maybe get serious about the track plan...I started sketching already and have a large desk covered with notes and inspirational photos of scenes I want to integrate.

I'm running out of hurdles to progress  ;D

Quote from: friscomike on February 10, 2025, 08:55:30 PMHowdy John,  your modules and cabinetry look fantastic.  Good luck on the new layout.  I bet it will be even better.  Have fun, mike
Thanks Mike...I really do like the way those cabinets (from Amazon) make the layout look like a "presentation", like it's a picture frame or stagecraft...not to mention the storage.

Actually, was just thinking I'll need more.

Quote from: Dave Buchholz on February 10, 2025, 10:47:22 AMDo you generally build a structure/scene on the bench, then insert it on the layout?

Fifth Dave to the right
Yes...for the best, most delicate stuff, I've cut a piece of homasote out and assembled a structure w/scenery right on it, then just dropped the whole thing right back in and blend scenery. I initially did this with my first (only so far - one more on deck) Sierra West kit...it was so delicate and complex a scene, it just seemed like a good idea...also made it an easy salvage from the last layout.

Great structure...Love the verticality of it - it will certainly serve the look you're after for the scene.

Love everything you're doing

Quote from: Dave Buchholz on February 08, 2025, 11:06:24 AMIt's not "under attack". It's not a complaint. It's a suggestion.

I usually read the Geezer posts in RRL almost everyday for 12 years that I was a member. I also contributed to them many times over those years, including this one, earlier today.
Agreed, certainly not an "attack" or complaint, more like a Welcome.

Do what you want, I guess. Just what we're all used to. Personally, I'd love to integrate all the new friends into a consistent thing.

Morning.

Still in pajamas here as I've been sketching track planning ideas (finally). I assembled a basic module yesterday and hope to paint it today and install tomorrow. Off to get in a quick 20m on my bike, so I can spend the weekend doing train stuff with no guilt.

I'm for daily threads as we've done here for years.

I'm absolutely for NO POLITICS...I'll be out of here in a second if it creeps in.

have a good and productive day all.

Hoping you get the same results with the new one!!

Thanks Jerry...theoretically, I should have a clearer vision of what I like  ::)  We'll see

Quote from: Rick on February 07, 2025, 10:26:06 AMThat's a fantastic looking layout.
Isn't that the Bar Mills Sn3 layout?
Wow...I wish. I was fortunate to visit that "Wharf Street" layout a couple of times...probably while attending the old Craftsman Structure Shows or Expos...definitely one of my favorites, so Thanks!

I miss it, but I didn't build it to be moved, so...here I am  ;D...hence the reason I'm spending so much time making sure I build modules that make sense. Little things like "can I reach the wing nuts once the scenery is in place" and "will these fit around that corner if I do ever relocate again?" are weighing heavily.

Truth be told, my local friends know I will start over at the drop of a hat. Seems like whenever I attend a NNGC, I come home with better ideas  ::)

thanks for the interest and encouragement guys!  There's no harbor scene (yet - or track, or wiring, or scenery of any kind  ;D), but here's some of my previous layout...hope I can replicate the level of scenery or better this time.

time to wake this thing up (again)...

I'm going to knock out one more similar sized module this weekend and then really try to start turning it into a layout. Ultimately, the plan is to have it surround me, with the "front" part - facing the door and the remaining room, to be without a backdrop, so it can be viewed from inside and outside the "donut". The 4' high modules with the tall backdrops will feature tall mountainous scenery.

Morning All, once again I apologize that I don't eat breakfast so you're on your own.

Nice to see all of the activity on the forum, including an influx of my favorite sorts of stuff - narrow gauge, critters, caricature-ish, Dave Meek-styled, etc.

Good news on MY modeling front...the Orlando Magic have again refused to make any positive moves at the trade deadline yesterday, so I've resigned as volunteer GM and rabid online fan...I'll hopefully redirect my energies and time to more important things like getting my layout to start looking like a layout and wake up my long dormant thread.

Next, I'll have to do something about this whole "work for a living" thing - it's cramping my style.

Have a good one...John

this looks to be a great one. That backdrop is nuts! I really like the track plan and the vision of a little Shay dwarfed by those waterfront structures.
