I've read a good deal over the years about how MR handles submissions, enough that I've never tried with them.  Not that I don't like the magazine, but I'm not so well equipped with article subjects that I want to sell something with a significant chance  I might never see it in print.

I haven't dealt with RMC under White River's management, but White River was very welcoming and gave fast turnaround to items I submitted for Scale Rails and NMRA Magazine.

Good Morning James,

I concur with you assessment of MR. I am hopeful that working with Robert Seckler / Lou Sassi it might move it a bit faster. since RMC has moved, i find they are much more pro active. I know both Steven Preist and Cinthia and will give them a call sometime today to explore. more later. In the meantime, working on the railroad so I can finish Chester for my AP Scenery certificate. That would give me four down, three to go.

Frank....

Everyone has different reasons for writing and submitting.  If you are doing it for credit toward a Author Certificate in the AP program of the NMRA....... All you need is a note or letter of acceptance from one or another publisher.  At AP process figured our years ago that no one would ever get the certificate as everyone would be held hostage for ever and like so many articles that do get published.............. posthumously ................ the certificates would be mailed out posthumously ! ! ! ! ! !

Did you ever notice how many towns are named after their water towers ! ?

Good Morning Bob,

I have already submitted my Author certificate and not wait for the actual certificate. I am fully aware of the speed with with most publications get around to publishing an article. Interestingly enough, I understand that if they accept it, they pay you before they use it. Hmmmm. Just thought I would publish it for the fun and to show it off. I am no longer a big fan of print media, preferring to utilize the web. Perhaps I should start a blog instead.

I have myAP for Author
So he are a couple of things people don't know
Posting on the forum counts toward AP
I need to look up how much
You still need a certain amount of published articles but blog, forum and such do count,
I think is about 1/2
Food for thought

Robert,

Good Morning from Arizona. I used the forum time on my Author certificate. you are allowed to use 1/2 the points required for electronic publications. Waiting on the paperwork that I turned in around Thanksgiving.

Good morning Frank!  You haven't posted on this thread for awhile so I thought I would bump it up to the top of the list.  We are sending reinforcements your way,  Wayne is packing his bags and will be giving you a call when he arrives.

Good Morning John and thanks for the bump. Put my Expedition up for sale yesterday and sold it this morning. Sweet. Taking delivery of a new Toyota Venza later today. Talk about timing. In the meantime, I'll be in the train room. Even sweeter!!! I'll keep an ear out for Wayne. BTW, what was the mixture ratio of the tree glue from Scenic Express?

I use 7:1 for the trees - 4:1 for everything else.

That's an excellent photo, but it got me thinking: Did the part of the Erie you like use cinders for ballast, or just stone?  Your roadbed looks light compared to the only places I've seen working steam - China and preserved RRs here and in the UK.

Good Morning James,

Thank you for your comment on the photo. To answer your question re: ballast on the Erie, I really don't know; that was too long ago. My railroad is not prototypical, but freelance. As such, I am using scenery, structures, etc.. that I like, not what is correct. I am more of a visual person and look it as a "painting" while creating my layout. I know that sounds kind of goofy, but that is me. The color of the roadbed is a a medium grey ballast that I purchased years ago from Highball products.  I found that every time you purchased a new bag, the color consistency was not there. They also changed owners several times and it went downhill from there. I have been using a product from Arizona Rock and find the color, size and consistency to be much better from lot to lot.

Thanks for stopping by.

This is an  amazing layout Frank.

Lynn,

Thank you for the kind words. Glad you enjoy all 46 pages. More to come soon. You can also go to another thread on scratchbuilt structures to see a recent structure build: http://modelersforum.com/index.php?topic=1018.0

Awesome layout Frank.

Jim,

Good Morning from Arizona. Welcome to the forum. As you may know, my railroad name is a back east short line. My scenery and many structures are typical New England. There is a little Pittsburgh thrown in as well.
Glad you have enjoyed the layout so far. I am pressing to have about half the railroad completed later this year for a special event. In the meantime, it is hustle, hustle to complete ( at least try) what I have. Need to complete the mine scene, including several small mine dwellings. then it is on to working on scenery.

Stop back anytime and once again, welcome to the forum. There are a lot of very friendly and talented folks here.

Good Morning All,

Another beautiful day in the desert. I have been working on the layout filling in all the open spots between various scenes/ buildings, etc... Thought you all might enjoy this pic. I know that ACL1504 will enjoy the FEC box car. The scene is the industrial area in the town of Chester. In the foreground is Getz Gas, Decker's Tar soap, Sherwin Williams Paint plant and Delabarre Woolens in the background. Way in the background is Rainbow Beverages ( a SRMW kit). I find that taking pictures and blowing them up on the computer shows you all the minute detail that you have missed and helps you to improve the total visual of the scene. Anyway, here you go:
