I covered almost anything that may get some paint over spray.

I used rattle can paint to paint the pit and side walls. The closest I could find to Floquil Aged Concrete was Krylon Matte River Rock.

I sprayed this color on the pit and sides.

The matte finish had a little shine when dry. I waited two hours.  I used Testor's rattle can Dull Coat and sprayed the pit to remove the shine.

Back in a few, Diet Pepsi time.

It turned out to be a very close match in color to the aged concrete by Floquil. I do have two bottles of Floquil Aged Concrete but didn't want to use it here when I found a match.

After a few more hours, I removed all the paper and tape.

Up next is cleaning the end tracks, painting the rails and ties and of course turntable weathering.

Tom,

That looks great!  Where did you find Krylon Matte River Rock?  I've never seen it in my travels.

Here is what the rattle can looks like.

Just remember, it dries to a semi-gloss and will need a Flat/Dull Coat when dry, about an hour.

Bob,

Yes, it is, and thank you for the compliment. I have a long way to go but then again, I've come a long way. Seems like there is no shortage of projects on the A&S RR.

Had a nice visit to the ole' A&S yesterday. The modifications to the turntable that Tom made with the wood decking and wood operators shack look great up close.  8)

The cafe with all the interiors detail and little people is terrific and the textured stucco on the Mexican joint is the most realistic I've seen modeled.  8)

Thanks for the fun time and BS Tom (and Bill and Curt).....great work.  :)
