Hello Tom, things are really looking refreshed on your layout. I appreciate the tips on upgrading scenery- some of the older areas of scenery on my layout probably need a similar treatment.

Tom, There's no wonder why you added weeds to that ditch, they grow!
Just like in real life around my home.. ;D

ACL 1504~,
Hey brother, I was out walking the KP and thought I stop by and see what kind of modeling trouble you've been stirring up.  Wow! Some fantastic modeling is what's been going on I see.

I was pondering my vocabulary for something antithetical to spark you on with your latest pics.  Nothing could be farther from the truth, your modeling skills for interpreting your imagination can only have one word to describe.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.  No other word I can think of to quite cover what you are creating for the rest of us mere mortals to envisage.

Kudos brother! ;D                                                                 KP-out...

Dave,

Shrubbery is a must down here in the South. Thank you for the very kind compliment on the dirt roads. Growing up down here I had lots of time spent on dirt roads. I model what I remember.

Thank you, maybe I need a few daisies around the cracker houses.

Jeff, Hey,

Thank you for stopping by. It is easy to let the scenery go and after a few years you begin to notice how "old" it looks.

I've been to home layouts where the scenery is old, looks old and even shows a few spider webs here and there.

I don't have spiders but, I do have "dust bunnies"!  ;D

Rich,

Weeds and more weeds. Yes, they do grow in ditches for sure. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Brother Thommy,

I try to stir up all I can. You and I do have our own patois in many areas.

For me, doing scenery is very easy as I model what I remember the area looking like growing up in Central/Northern Florida.
The Atlantic and Southern RR scenery is base on Central to North Florida with a little Southern Georgia scenery in the mix.

Thank for the very generous compliment of the scenery brother.

Tom

I forgot to mention two things in yesterday's post.

I mentioned in a previous post I'd talk about the broken trees being reused as shrubs. When I find a broken tree, I throw it in the old tree bin. I'll remove some and crush them in my fingers as shown in the photo below.

I used the broken trees as roadway shrubs in the two photos below.

The other item I want to mention is I try to stay away from certain colors for the scenery.

Olive colors, any material that has a gray or bluish tint is also avoided. I've found these colors look dusty and old from the start.

Back in a few, Pam needs something done.

The next photo is of old scenery by the road.

I use wet water to dampen the area.

I let the water be absorbed the the scenery.

I then add a good amount of Matte Medium and let it sit for a few minutes.

I then add the first layer of green scenery material. I let the material soak up some of the matte medium.

I'll then added a second color and add to areas not covered by the first layer.

I want a 3D like appearance to the first two layers.
