Howdy folks,

Curt, Larry, Jerry, and Rick, thanks for the support.  As I progressed through the instructions, I, too, was disappointed that all the cribbing under the floor would be hidden.

Today was fiddly work, but I made good headway.  It took a while to figure out how the different parts fit together, but I succeeded.

Unfortunately, I sliced the top of a finger on the chopper.  I think I read that other members have done that too.  With the blood thinners I take, I bled on the deck of the derrick.  Maybe I can cover it up.

Here is the floor. Nail holes, rivets, headache post, and weathering are next for the floor.

Here is a close-up view of the Jack posts, Samson posts, and Sand Reel. The bearing housings were made from a plastic tube and plastic sheet.

And to put it all in perspective, the derrick slips into place.  It won't be permanently attached for a few more steps.

After the next steps mentioned above, work will begin on all those wheels.

Have fun,
mike

Mike, sorry about the finger.
Hope it doesn't hurt too much or keep you from the bench.
Darken the blood stain and add a few more oil stains and it will blend right in.
Everything looks neat and nicely colored.

If you want get rid of the stain, try Hydrogen Peroxide. It takes blood stains out of clothing.

Good afternoon folks,

Curt, Rick, Philip, Dave, Rich, Jerry, and Karl, thanks for the support, tips, and well wishes for my finger.  I don't know how many times I have done that...

Yesterday and today I spent working on the well deck.  I added the control arm and level brackets, and the headache post with braces.

Making the bull and band wheel and the sand reel from laminated flat stock is on the docket for tomorrow.

Have fun,
mike

Howdy folks,

Rick, Curt, Larry, and Philip, thank you, thank you for following along.

Yikes, Curt, that sounds like one of my misadventures.

I can't believe I spent most of the day on wheels.  Most are made from four layers.  The next step will be to spin them on an arbor to true the edges.  The kit included the arbor.  After the arbor work, it NBW time, again.  See all those little holes?  Guess what goes in them.

Have fun,
mike
