Good evening, all, and my condolences to Tom and family over the passing of your mother in law. After the layout tour time window for today's HUB event I went to a memorial gathering for my niece who was murdered last Fall.  Decades ago I remember many parties at Moseley Pines in Newburyport. This year I've only been there for memorials.  The wheel turns...

Good Morning,

I see others here but I'll get things started. Morning beverages are set to go. Breakfast is eggs anyway you like'em, crispy bacon and/or pan sausages, and home fries.

A storm blew past from about 4:30 to 7:30 am; thankfully the power stayed on but we did get the lights flickering once. Going to be HOT this week with one day being 97....yikes....in New York. Currently it's 79 with a high of 90. Hopefully dinner on the grill tonight if the weather cooperates; if not then stove top. Started laying out the road for the layout yesterday and hope to finish that today. I do have a couple of small "junk piles" coming from Rusty Rail tomorrow for my build.

Have a great day!!!! Mind the heat and be well.

Good morning everyone.

Shelley weather: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. High near 57.
It's raining now.

Larry, thanks for the coffee and breakfast.
Have fun building the road and hope you get to grill.

James, my condolences on your families loss of your niece.

Greg, right back at ya.

Philip, complaining wouldn't help anyway.  ;)

Jerry, nice picture of the fawn.
Did mom eventually show up?

Mike, sounds like Sharon and you had a nice day out.

Jim, welcome home and hope you and the Mrs. are feeling fine.

Dave, thank you and I think the tower had more than cell service equipment on it.

Karl, TomO, ACLTom, Dale, Ron, Curt and everyone else, hope you are all well.

Just a day to relax yesterday.
Star did walk a mile down the road and back.
It's beautiful here and I took a couple of pictures that I'll post tomorrow.

Joyce, Pam's mother, peacefully passed this morning at 11:18 AM. She was five weeks shy of her 97th birthday. Pam took excellent care of her the past 13+ years.

Tom

Sorry to read this. My best thoughts to you and Pam

Good morning folks,

Larry, thanks for opening, coffee, and breakfast.  Stay cool at the workbench.

Rick, thanks for the photo and video.

How is the rest of the crew today?

It's a bright morning forecast for 92F.  Summer is here!  Sharon and I had a nice day out yesterday.  Today we'll rest from all that fun!  ;)  Not sure what the day holds in store, probably watching baseball with Sharon, plus a nap.

Have fun,
mike

Good morning from hot and humid So. Central Wisconsin. Heat indices will venture to about 110f degrees today so any outdoor activity is cancelled in this household.

I will walk in AC comfort inside on the machine that goes nowhere sometime this morning. Normally I'd be on the south facing deck in the morning but the wind is being blocked so I'm on the north porch. It's already 86f degrees but the gusting 25mph winds are keeping it comfortable.

The house is quiet. The grandkids and parents are sort of camping on their new property. The daughter's office/studio/craft/chicken coop area is 100% done minus landscaping. The kids and their guests pitched 2 tents in the enclosed chicken run. The daughter and hubby camped out in her office.

What books am I reading? I was a huge Tom Clancy fan. So I put them in order and started I re-reading for maybe the 10th but last time The Hunt for Red October. When I finished it I put it in the lending library book in our front yard at the corner where our side walks meet. When I finished that book I put it out there around 9pm and when I added a couple books from Terry the next morning, it was borrowed already. I have re-read so far 5 Tom Clancy books. I have more. Now I am re-reading the Harry Potter series before giving them to the grandkids. After I finish those I will move to the Ann Rice books re-reading them. Those will go into the lending library.

I headed northeast of Green Bay yesterday to Door County, Wisconsin for an OPS session. About 30 minutes beyond the driving radius we like to stick to the 2 hour 35 minute drive over was worth it with a great 4.5 hour session. The beta session for the BN River district plywood pacific went very well with 12 operators testing it out. A few glitches but nothing major. Somewhere in the neighborhood of a 1200' mainline run. The pinch point in the aisles was a section of layout that the aisle narrowed to 48". I've to way to many OPS sessions where the main aisle wasn't that wide. It was very comfortable walking around. Looks to me and my driver that the layout will easily handle 24 operators plus a train master and dispatcher. All wired up for LCC the layout is next ready for signals. A good time

Today is a stay cool day. Hopefully I can get out of my layout funk. I just can't seem to get into my own layout. I have been thinking of starting over and Terry doesn't care so I am free to do it. My 2 OPS session traveling friends are willing to help but actually said I should think about it some more.

I have got approval on 1 of 2 paper mills I am designing for friends layouts. Mainly back grounds using facade structures on the one that will measure 2'x 30'. The only full building will be the coal fired power station that the owner wants as the main feature of the paper mill.

Does anyone have a picture of pulp tanks from the mid 1960's or even a description?

I was just told I am on my own for Sunday dinner! It's Sunday, we are always on our own. I think she has watched too much Sunday morning news...

Enjoy the day

Wife and I slept late today, normally she wakes up about 6:30 and I'm awake by 7:00.  But 8:30 and we were still asleep when a "take your morning pill" reminder beeped.  I got up quickly to take the dogs out before "rain starting in 10 minutes."  Nothing planned for the rest of the day, hopefully some progress on the machine shop.  I think I have a final tool layout, now I need to do detailed planning for the belt drive.  I did do a bit of figure painting yesterday, I'll have to see if the results still look OK, and then add pin wash along the clothing lines.

TomO, I took the 'Iceland Scenario' from "Red Storm Rising", relocated it to Cape Cod, and used that to generate a scenario for my guard unit at Camp Edwards.  Let me ask my neighbor about pulp tanks, he recently retired from that world.

Good morning Larry, Rick, TomO, Mike, Karl, Dave and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Larry.

ACLTom, sorry to hear about Pam's Mother, my condolences to you, Pam and the rest of your family.

James condolences to you and your family, I can't imagine what it is like going through that.

Currently 78 and slightly cloudy.  Had a heck of a thunderstorm last night.  Gracie hates those and she tried to get as close as she could to me in bed.  She was as close as she could get but kept trying to get closer.

Had a busy day yesterday, Managed some more purging from the spare bedroom and put together the shelving units so now the Mrs can start organizing her craft supplies. Today should be a lazy day for me (hopefully) as the only thing I need to do is cut the grass.  Tonight we are going out to dinner with my Mom and Sister.

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning All,

Larry thanks for opening and breakfast. It sounds like you're dealing with a FL spring.

Started out the day with a walk at 77F and high humidity but with a slight breeze. I've already completed my outdoor and indoor chores. Now I'm beat. The pool cleaning continues to go slow. The water is clearing but I need to brush the pool again. :P  I'll do that tomorrow.

MOH should be back Tuesday or Wednesday. Her BFF is supposed to follow her down and pickup one of the rescues were holding. She is a very experienced skunk owner. She'll spend the night then return home.

James I am sorry for your loss.

TomO I'm not impressed with the books that have come out in Clancy's name after his death. I also used to read Anne Rice.

Tom I hope you and Pam are doing OK and good luck with the surgery this week.

Well I've wasted enough of your time.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Thank you Dave. I've been told the current pulp tanks that Walthers offers were being used in the 1950's. I cannot find proof of that

Jerry. Usually I am a sandwich guy when I'm on my own. Terry does not enjoy bread so rarely will have a sandwich. There are no left overs in the refrigerator, there are no deli meats so I may just drive and get an Italian Bomber from a sort of local (5 miles) sandwich shop and Italian seasoned fries. A bomber is an Italian sausage with 3 medium sized meat balls on a 14" shop made roll. Marinara over the top with a couple cheeses added and then toasted. Cut in 1/2 as it's 2 meals. Terry and I will split the now rarely purchased fries but these are a definite treat.

I agree on the after TC after death books. Just an unneeded money grab but also nowhere near the story telling of TC. The Anne Rice books I read years ago and are from Terry's collection. She also could write a good story.

I was an eclectic reader as  I really enjoy the Tom Clancy stuff. But, I also enjoyed the Harry Potter books and even the Twilight books. The TC books after The Hunt for Red October were the only books I ever purchased hard cover. I read the Hunt before President Reagan endorsed it and help make TC a super best selling author.

I think one of the RR Forums had a thread "what are you reading this summer?"  Should we start that here?  And if you've never read them, the Aubrey/Maturin novels by Patrick O'Brian are really good!
