Happy New Year to all.

A lazy day in So. Central Wisconsin with no plans other than Terry saying dinner is big tonight. I didn't ask what but she said she wants to cook. I'll avoid the kitchen as "big" means something new for us and she'll get grumpy creating the meal this afternoon.

I did after 7 years, 2018, pull the plug on my daily online video game playing. I have played every day since 1/1/2018 on the same site, but I deleted it last night. I posted on a friend's thread at MRH forum and then deleted the short cut to the forum. I'll still be here and ModelRailroadforums.com but deleted all other shortcuts to forums I have visited in the past. I cut back visiting and interacting but now the easy links are gone!

The other thing I am cutting back on is the traveling to OPS Sessions. 2 times a month operating plus 2 layout work sessions should be enough traveling for model railroads.

My part of the work sessions though will change this month. On one layout I have a city to recreate per proto photos of the city, sketches and then photos from the old layout the owner took. He has the buildings from his old layout but between his son and me refreshing the structures will be easy enough. The tracks go in this weekend and Friday next week I'll get a bead on what needs to be done from backdrop, ground cover to the details. I'm going to love this.

The other layout is similar. I'm working on specific areas of the layout. Currently in my area I'm working on a power plant to hide a concrete pillar. I did the bridges for the harbor scene and he says the double track mainline and interchange track will be installed by Wednesday. No longer part of the framing crew I will be concentrating on the paper mill completion from mill track work to the finish details. He'll wire! Overall the section I have been working on besides framing is 2' wide x 38' long x 16" high. The paper mill alone is 144" of false front facades. But now it's all mine, his vision, my way and my friend is good with that. Building structures to me is as good as it gets including weathering freight cars.

The grandson plays in Michigan's UP this weekend starting with 1 game Friday night and 1 Saturday morning in Calument. Then down to Houghton for games Saturday and the games Sunday are in Marquette. Sunday night will be in Green Bay just to sleep and Monday they will visit the Packer Hall of Fame at Lambeau Field. We will have the granddaughter Friday morning for the duration.

Be safe and enjoy the day

I ventured to Riverside Quarry, aka Little Bend today and snapped a few photos. I passed this one redneck trailer and 3 kids were playing in the yard. The little one shot me the bird. Some terrible parenting going on today! The parent were the ones screaming in the shopping carts we all remember. Oh the joy!

Good Morning All,

Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, bagels, yogurt, OJ, and soda.

Started out the day with a walk at 46F under a full moon. Yesterday after viewing images of coke I started experimenting with SE pasture base which was natural stone in the size I wanted. I tried several colored washes before I found the one I liked and after that dried, I tossed some Monroe Hobbies ash gray weathering powder on it to finish it.

Today after chores and dropping off library books I'll start painting and weathering the tempering oven smoke stack and blacking the metal guy wires.

That's it for now. It looks like we're getting close to a new volume here.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning Everyone,

Curt thanks for the coffee and breakfast. Sounds like you're making great progress on your diorama; enjoy.

Philip very nice scene. After working in a grocery store for almost 50 years I've seen all the parenting techniques; or should I say the lack-of.

What's in your rearview mirror today.

It's a cloudy 18 with a high of 22 here; maybe more white stuff. Have the usual Friday am errands to run then it'll be cleaning out the driveway yet again. The good news we're supposed to be getting a warm-up next week. Not sure about any bench time; some Trek stuff looms.

Have a great day!! Be well and keep warm.

Good morning everyone.

45 now, cloudy and 55 in Kingman.

Curt, thanks for the coffee and breakfast.
Glad you're making progress on the coke.

Larry, that warm up can't come fast enough.

Philip, nice modeling and photos.

It was raining and didn't set up the Starlink when I stopped for the night.
I'm on the phone and keeping it brief.
After finishing the laundry I started the drive to NJ.
Made to just past Kingman and I should be in New Mexico by end of day.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning folks,

Curt, thanks for opening, coffee, and breakfast.  Good luck with the stack.

Larry, hope the sneaux isn't too deep for shoveling. Engage!

Rick, safe travels.  You've had a fantastic time out west.

Greg, Happy New Year to you.

Philip, the dynamite shed scene looks mighty cool.

Jim, Happy New Year to you.

Jerry, hope you get well soon.  Colds are no fun.

TomO, good luck with your new agenda.

Karl, it's hard to beat those old movie classics.

Dave, good luck with the car kit.

Ron, good luck with the 1:1 construction.

TomACL, Koontz looks fantastic.

How is the rest of the crew?

It's a hazy morning, warming to 62°F this afternoon.  The collards and black-eye peas with Boston butt and ham tasted great. They should bring me luck this year.  I plan to rig the oil derrick today and finish the build. I hope to get back to the Mount Blue combine kit. I need to direct attention to the layout, too.  Finishing the wiring will be first up on it.

Have fun,
mike

My current build is the Oil Derrick and miscellaneous rolling stock .

I checked the trucks & couplers on the HOn30 boxcar, and dug out a couple other completed cars to make up a little train.  The problem is those cars have the Grandt Line trucks but Fox Valley wheelsets, which fall out of the trucks.  That's because the Grandt Line truck expects cylindrical axles (prototypical, but very uncommon in model railroads), and Fox Valley wheelsets are conical axles.

Anyway, I can finish the ironwork on that car, and then pull off another half-completed project to work on.  I have -so many choices-!!!

Morning all,

Thanks for breakfast Curt and good luck with the chores.

Philip, nice scene and dynamite shed.

Rick, safe traveling to NJ.

Larry, errands are always an adventure with the women.

Mike, looks like you got the good luck food ready.

Dave, good luck with the trucks.

That is all I have for today. Be safe and have a nice productive day everyone.

Good morning Curt, Larry, Rick, Mike, Dave, ACLTom and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Curt, sounds like you figured out how to make model coke.

Larry, take it easy cleaning off the driveway.

Rick, safe travels.

Mike, Have fun at the bench, sounds like you have a lot planned.

Dave, hope you get the truck issues worked out.

ACLTom, have a great day.

Philip, that a great looking model you have there.

It's a chilly -25c (-13f) and the sun is shining bright.  It's a great day to stay inside except the Mrs requested a Costco run this morning, which I did.  I hate going to Costco as of the $$$ it always ends up taking.  Now that that is done, I'm staying indoors.  No work was done on the boxcars yesterday but I did some more work on the background behind the staging yard.  I posted an update on my layout thread.  I also relaid the tiles on the modeling room floor so that repair is now completed.  Not sure what today will bring.

Have a great day everyone.

160 on the truck dash... light snow at times.

I was on the road early to get to my credit union. There were three attempts to use my Visa card yesterday after the two on Tuesday on my debit card. After PT I need to go home and re enter pass codes to Amazon and pay pal.

That's my plan.

Be well all. Drive safe Rick.

Karl a couple of months ago we were hacked so badly we had to close our checking and reopen a new one. All new CC's etc. one of the accounts effected was the water. We recieved a late charge, MOH called to explain but we still had to pay it even after 30 years of on time payments. :-X

Any bank that did that to me would lose my business.   There are lots of choices in banks and credit unions, do not stay with one that doesn't treat you well.
