My 87 year old train buddy and friend Tom passed away yesterday. Fine man and HO/On30 modeler. He will be missed. The stories he could tell. He was a retired chemical engineer and fireman in Louisville, KY. The last time he was down he said I'm 80, had us youngins convinced.  ;D

sorry for the loss, Philip.  Chemical Engineer and Fireman?  Interesting combination of interests.

Philip, sorry for your loss.
Your friend was a good modeler and a good family man.

Rick, that crater is a "maar" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phreatomagmatic_eruption, a kind of eruption that can be very explosive.  Basically, hot lava meets cold water, and the water turns explosively into steam.  That's the same thing that causes boiler explosions when there's not enough water on the crown sheet...

It rained here last night.  We got only about 1/2 of the original promised amount, but we'll take all the rain we can get.  It's drying out now, should be fine for the trick-or-treaters tonight.

Once the cleaners are done, I can head back down to the train room.  I'll do some more work on the seated figures and then glue them into place.  Then I need to do pick-up/put-away before starting the next phase of the machine shop (the assembly of the actual walls...)

Good morning Larry, Curt, James, Karl, Mike, Rick, Philip, Dave and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Larry, Hope thew errands go well and you make it to the train room.  Supper sounds great.

Curt, you are really moving along on the build kit.

James, enjoy whatever you decide to do today.

Karl, you're right, I am a Chris Lyon disciple.  ;D  When I asked him to paint my backdrop, he painted about 3 linear feet showing me his technique and then told me I was on my own for the rest.  :o   I used to help him when he did clinics with "students".

Mike, glad you are feeling much better.

Rick, safe driving.

Philip, so sorry for your loss.

Dave, have fun in the train room.

Another day of rain with warmer temperatures as it is currently 8c (46f).  Had a very busy morning already as I dropped the Mrs car off at the garage ($$$$$ :o ), took the Mrs to a Dr's appointment, stopped at the art store to pick up the missing paint for the backdrop and stopped at the grocery store.  I think I need a nap.

Have a great day everyone.

Morning Gents,

Coffee's ready along with the usual morning beverages. Set up an omelet station with all sorts of goodies; be creative.

Philip so sorry for the loss of your friend; my sincere condolences.

What's your plans for the day.

It's 40 with a high of 48 with more rain and wind in New York. Had our usual amount of "Hollerweiners" last night.....ZERO which is fine by me. The Train Show's this weekend but I'm sitting this year out since last year was almost the same as the year before.....maybe next year. Hope to get in some bench time this am then taking down Halloween decorations this afternoon and adding a few for Thanksgiving.

Have a great day!!! Be well.

Good Morning All,

Thanks for opening and breakfast Larry. I hope you make it to the bench today.

Today will be mainly spent outside cleaning the driveway so I doubt any bench time. I have a large driveway that comfortably has room for 4 cars and in a pinch 6. At least it will be in the 60's today.

Yesterday I spent 2 hours building a freight dock for the pattern shop. It has 3 of them (2 are concrete).  I guess I mounted the sliding freight doors a smidge too low because the legs were too long forcing them to be re-done.

Tom and Pam have a safe trip home today.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning everyone.

Ely, NV weather: 37 now and sunny and 67 later.

Larry, thanks for the coffee and breakfast.
Have fun with the holiday redecorating.

Jerry, any update pictures?

Ron, hope the car repair isn't too expensive and the wife's Dr. visit went well.

Dave, thanks for filling in the blanks on what created that crater.

How's the rest of the crew today?

Made it to Ely and went to the gym and did my laundry.
Went to the Nevada Northern Railway Museum to get some info before heading over there today.
I'm trying to set up a guided tour to video.

Another fall photo from Yosemite.

Good morning Larry, Curt, Rick and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Larry.  Here in the Great White North, when we take down the Halloween decorations, we start pulling out the Christmas decorations.  Have fun at the bench this morning.

Curt, hope the driveway cleaning goes well.

Rick, the car repair was expensive :o  and the Mrs. Dr's visit went well.  Have fun at the museum, looking forward to the video.

Weather is currently 3c (38f) and overcast, at least the rain has stopped, for now.  No work got done on the layout yesterday due to all the running around I ended up doing yesterday but I did spend some time going through old slides from our trip out west in the early eighties to get some inspiration.  The Mrs is going out this afternoon so I have a feeling I'll be putting on some Jazz music and picking up a paintbrush.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning folks,

Larry, thank you for opening the lounge, coffee, and omelet. Good luck with the decorations.

Philip, condolences for the loss of your friend.  That's been one of the hardest events as I get older.  So many friends...

How is the rest of the gang?

It's another bright day here at 37°F this morning, headed to 65°F this afternoon.  I made it upstairs for 30 minutes yesterday, but didn't accomplish much.  Still need more energy.

Have fun,
mike

Waking to a dreary day in Rochester NY. Looks like a great day to be a basement dweller.

Been imagineering how to convert a small fishing boat to canal work boat, kind of like a small tugboat. I played with a few ideas last night.
