You have been home now for a few days you must have got through the honey-do-list and built something on the layout.  Hope all is well - give us an update when you get a chance.

Good Morning John,

Thanks for stopping by. The trip was wonderful. all 17 of us enjoyed Costa Rica. Out of the corner of my eye while on the bus, I saw what looked like a GE 44 tonner and a bunch of freight cars. They had not been used in quite a long time. I am going to ask my buddy in Costa Rica to go over the mountain and take some pictures. A little hot and humid along the coast, but the mountains were fantastic. Jet lag is over and most of the honey-do list is done.

I am having three trees delivered today. Don't worry, they plant them. actually, I dug one hole and removed a stump. This is also the time of year that the mesquite trees drop there pods. Millions of them. We have two large trees out front and I am out there about 5 am picking up pods for several hours. They look like dried green bean pods. This is a chore because every morning there are more pods just where you cleaned the day before. another week or so and they will all be picked up. I Hope.  That being said, I am slowly getting back into the train room. Getting back to working on the station has been slow, but I should be able to get quite a bit of time in today. I just finished the eyebrow window, so now I can shingle the back roof. I want to get the roof done soon. then the only remaining item is the shed roof around the entire station. So-o-o, I am on the home stretch.

Well, back to the shingles. I'll post some pictures later today or early tomorrow.

Well, after several attempts at the eyebrow window, it is finally  installed and the rear roof wall is shingled. The rest of the roof walls should go quicker because there are no other impediments. Well, there is a bell tower. I forgot about that. the rest should rather quickly, I hope.

Eyebrow window looks great, seldom modeled but commonly seen...

Dave,

Thanks for stopping by. Glad you like the eyebrow window. Probably more commonly seen back East versus the West. I rather like them. Actually quite easy to build. This station only had one window like this on the small end of the building. Typically you might have several of these types of windows on the second floor of a station. More like a stylish dormer.

a quick visual update on the location of the station and the town of Chester. There about three more structures that will be added to this scene. One SRMW kit, a scratchbuilt tower and one more, yet undefined. Thought you might want to see the progress of the town of Chester. Enjoy.

Frank,

The station looks great in that location. Yakama Apples looks right at home as well. Fantastic craftsmanship Frank. Yea, I know, "Tom, get back to work on the opvalix"!

Tom,

Great talking to you this morning. Glad you like the picture of the town of Chester. Everything is coming together. Yakima Apples still needs final placement. And as discussed, get back to working on your ovalix. The idea and execution are looking great and can't wait to see the three levels inconjunction with the ovalix. Keep up the beautiful work.

Did you ever notice how many towns are named after their water towers ! ?

The dual flat iron building with a center track is very creative.

Marty

Marty,

Thanks for stopping by. Most people don't notice the building in question, but I like it. It is a series of DPM buildings cut and glued to make the individual shape. Depending on how old you are, you might remember an article in RMC on how to build this building. I'll look in my files and see if I can give you a better date and author. So here are two of the same buildings to make an interesting siding and even more interesting track configuration to get cars in and out. working on my operations plan for this town. Here is another picture from the other end.

Very cool.

Thanx
Bob

Bob & Marty,

Here is another view of the buildings. Tight quarters, but works fine and looks good. There are still some roof details that need to be added as well as a base. I am putting all my buildings on bases. That makes removal of the buildings very easy, yet it is not really noticeable when done.  Also helps should someone reach over and bump the building, no harm, no foul. After installing several structures directly to the homosote, I decided that was a mistake. I have one building. a SRMW structure, that is directly mounted and I am considering removing it and putting it on a base. Very Carefully.

John,

Good Morning,

Thanks for stopping by. Progress on the railroad is slow. Had a buddy and his wife over for dinner last night. rick has been trying to convince me to add operations to my list of things to do on the layout. I have been doing operations on his layout now for about 6 months. Good fun and good friends. I am slowly working on developing the operations plan. More important for me to finish the building of structure and scenery. Must be my favorite, what do you think?

Still working outside early in the morning picking up pods. Probably another week of it. Nice shade trees, but oh, those damn pods.

Have a great weekend.
